Many people I have seen have been infected with the Antivirus 2009 (aka AntiSpywareXP 2009 and XP Antispyware 2009. ) There are many good sides for how to remove this ... some have information that others do not .. here, while referencing the sites I get the information from, I will try to sum up and put all of the information in one place
"What is this? I thought this was an antivirus (or antispyware) ?" ![]()
This is a rogue program that install fake (and from what I have read, harmless) "spyware" or "viruses" (depending on which infection you have ... see the first sentence on the page for details) on your system and then it detects those very same files it installed so you think "wow, my computer is not secure, I better buy this program" it also apparently detects the number of infections that it installs and then says "I have detect X-number of infections... if you what to actually remove/clean theses, you will have to buy the full version"
Some sites call this a "bad program and "scareware" ... which i find appropriate ( ref: Bleeping Computers URL )
It also hijacks Internet Explorer and prompts you about viruses likely to infect your computer due to insecure internet activity (like downloading tHIS PROGRAM
) This although is bad (as in morally bad for someone to do this to people's computers) its just basically another scare tatic to get people to buy this "product/scam"
Note: I am not sure if this refers to IE only or if this affects Firefox/Opera/Safari as well

Software that can get rid of this for you
I know some users have had these infections, and not been able to download anything; however, this message is for those that still can, or have this program already on your computer
I have said this program is the fix for countless issues lately, and YET AGAIN, it's a godsend
Malwarebytes can EASILY get rid of this infection (in its current form) with a full scan.
HELP! , I can not download MalwareBytes! .. how do i get rid of Antivirus Pro 2009?!
Not to worry ! This can manually be removed ...
Listed below are some files/entries that are in the current list of manual removal instructions. I will try to keep this updated, however i can NOT be sure if the list is 100% complete due to AV 2009 changing filenames/adding new files
(for this initial List here, i want to thank Bleeping Computers for the information
